‘Hopelessness is a sin’: says Fawad Alam.Pakistan batsman Fawad Alam has promised to work harder after being ignored in the 15-man squad for the upcoming tour to England & Ireland in May.
Inzamamul Haq on Sunday announced the squad on Sunday, however, Fawad Alam was not selected in that 15-man squad.
While giving the answer to a question, Alam said: “I don’t know the answer to this, this has been happening forever. However, a player’s job is to perform, stay fit, and wait to be rewarded.”
The 31-year-old batsman, who has the highest average in first-class, says “everyone is picked on their domestic performance while he is ignored time and again”.
He says, “There are a lot of reasons. I cannot tell them on screen but favoritism is there,”.
In a TV show, Fawad Alam says, “People think it is a rumor but it is a reality. Newcomers are inducted into the national team and are said to be the performers in the domestic circuit, but then where is Fawad Alam scoring all those runs? Is he performing in Bangladesh’s domestic cricket? He is not selected for his domestic performance while everyone else is picked based on the same criteria.”
While answering a question how does he keep himself motivated?, He says“I’m not the only one who has faced all this. This gives me hope and I have made a commitment to myself to not give up. When you are playing a lot of people will try to bring you down and only a few will help you lift yourself up. So I try to stay with people who encourage me.”
On non-selection :
“Being hopeless is a sin and I am not going to lose hope,” he said. “I’ll do what I know is best for me. I’ll work hard, practice more. My cricket doesn’t end here if I wasn’t named in the squad.”
Future plans :
“Pakistan Cup is coming. I will try my best to perform in Pakistan Cup. Other than that, I might go to England to play league cricket,” he said.
